Police Beat: Waterbed Heater Ignites Small Fire

Incidents from the Menomonee Falls police reports.

Several incidents involving vandalism made the incident reports over the past week, and one man started a fire after forgetting to turn off the heater on his waterbed.

Here are the incidents that occurred over the past week in Menomonee Falls.

  • A 54-year-old woman was arrested for huffing from an aerosol air duster while sitting inside a vehicle parked in the garage of a home on the N7900 block of Menomonee Manor Court at 12:34 p.m. Tuesday. An EMS unit was dispatched to the home and the woman was alternating in and out of consciousness when they arrived.
  • Between 7:50 a.m. and 11 a.m. Tuesday an unknown vandal dug eight 3-foot-long scratches in the driver’s side door of a vehicle parked outside Fidelity Information Systems, W126N7449 Flint Dr. The owner of the vehicle said he doesn’t have any known enemies, and wasn’t sure who would do something like that to his vehicle.
  • At 10:32 p.m. Monday, a 21-year-old Menomonee Falls man was cited for prowling and a knives possession violation. According to witnesses, the man was hiding in the bushes at a residence on the N7800 block of Countryside Drive. Officers found the man hiding in the front yard, and determined that he was also under the influence of an intoxicating substance.
  • At 6:06 a.m. Monday, a man started a fire inside an apartment on the N7400 block of Narrow Lane after leaving the heating element of his waterbed on. The 56-year-old Menomonee Falls man was in the process of moving, and had forgotten to unplug the element.
  • At 4:45 a.m. Tuesday, officers were dispatched to , W182N8323 Georgetown Dr., after an alarm was tripped at the business. The glass in the front door of the business was broken, but the hole was not large enough for a person to fit through. It is unknown what broke the window, and nothing was stolen.
  • At 11:19 a.m. Monday, a wallet was turned into the Menomonee Falls Police Department. The Menomonee Falls resident who turned the wallet in found it at Shady Lane and Ann Avenue.
  • Sometime between 3:45 a.m. and 4:18 a.m. Sept. 24, an unknown suspect spray-painted graffiti on the east wall underneath the railroad trestle at Town Line Road and Mill Road.
  • At 1:43 p.m. Sept. 24, a 26-year-old man entered a residence on the W15000 block of Cleveland Avenue yelling and got into a fight while obtaining custody of his 6-year-old son. The man was taken to jail without incident.
  • A Coca-Cola machine in the boy’s locker room at was discovered damaged at 12:55 p.m. Sept. 21. The top frame of the door was bent upward, and the plastic covering of the machine was also kicked in.
