Police Beat: A Theft of Necessity And A Close Call

It was against the law, but can you blame the suspect or group of suspects that subverted the law for this luxury?

Cold-blooded crime

Desperate times call for desperate measures, and when the mercury rises as high as it has in Menomonee Falls over the past month, some folks lose their cool and subvert the law to stay cool.

Between June 29 and July 2, a person stole an entire air conditioning unit kit from a detached garage located west of W178N8466 Village Ct. That includes the cooling coil, and a line set to install the unit. The garage appeared to have been unlocked and entered several times throughout the weekend, and there were no signs of forced entry.

A 21-year-old Omro man must have had time and biology on is side Monday in order to avoid a citation from the police department.

The man was pulled over for speeding near Highway 41/45 and County Line Road at 12:30 a.m., and police spotted several clues that indicated he was intoxicated. The man failed an initial preliminary breath test and his blood-alcohol content was 0.15. He was arrested and taken to the station for a chemical breath test.

After a 20-minute observation period, the man gave two tests, which yielded a BAC of 0.06. As a result, police didn’t issue an OWI citation due to lack of evidence and he was released to a sober driver.
