The Menomonee Falls Police Department held a ceremony Sunday to remember fallen officers, and honor the work current officers do each day.

On Sunday, the Menomonee Falls Police Department held a solemn ceremony to remember those officers slain in the line of duty, and to honor the dangerous work current officers encounter each time they step into the squad car.

Waukesha County District Attorney Brad Schimel gave a bittersweet speech about the nature of the job. Although Waukesha County didn't lose a single officer in the line of duty this year or recently, he warned that death in the line of duty is almost an inevitability. 

Schimel paid homage Brookfield Police Officer Paul Dilger, and told Dilger's story to highlight the dangers of the job. Dilger was struck by a woman in a hit-and-run accident in Dec. 2009 and is still on the long path toward recovery. He was honored last year .
