Lannon, Falls Nearing Agreement on Fire Department Merger

Lannon would likely close its current fire station, and utilize one of two new stations to be constructed in Falls in 2014.

It's been in the works for quite some time, but a final agreement could be hashed out Monday to merge the Lannon and Menomonee Falls fire departments.

The Village Board will meet in closed session Monday to discuss and vote on a possible agreement between the two departments. It's not clear if the board will reconvene into open session for further action, or if more negotiations will be necessary.

Representatives from both communities officially began negotiating the agreement in March.

A collaborative relationship already exists between the Lannon and Falls fire departments. Falls provides dispatch services for Lannon, and Lannon provides fire services to the southwest side of the village.

Lannon would likely close its current fire station once Falls constructs two new stations in the next year. The Village Board approved its 2013 capital projects plan earlier in March, which includes funding to draw up designs for the stations.

One new fire station would be built on Silver Spring Road west of Pilgrim Road. Then, Fire Station #1, which is on Appleton Avenue in downtown Falls, would be relocated to Main Street and Menomonee Avenue on the former Sunnyside School property.
