The Menomonee Falls Fire Department extinguished a blaze Wednesday afternoon that started in a home on Mary Dale Drive just south of Good Hope Road.
The call was received by the MFFD at roughly 1:38 p.m. and crews had extinguished the blaze roughly an hour later. Traffic was still narrowed to one lane for emergency vehicles along Appleton Avenue south of Good Hope Road until the last engine left at 5 p.m.
Fire Chief Jeffrey Hevey said the fire appears to have started in the breezeway of the home between the kitchen and the garage. However, it's still unclear what the cause was. Hevey said the fire appears to have been accidental, and roughly $150,000 in damage occurred.
All five people that were in the home evacuated unharmed. Firefighters were not harmed in the blaze either.
The Red Cross is taking care of the needs for the family as they transition through their temporary displacement.
