UPDATE: Drunk Driver Strikes a Squad Car and Injures a Falls Police Officer

Male driver who struck the squad car had a blood-alcohol concentration nearly three times the legal limit.

A 46-year-old man was arrested after he slammed his van into the back of a Menomonee Falls police squad car early Wednesday morning – drunk.

The 31-year-old police officer was taken from the scene in a stretcher, but was later released from the hospital. Lt. Kevin Von Bank said the officer is now resting at home.

At approximately 12:00 a.m. Wednesday, the Menomonee Falls Fire Department received a call that a police officer suffered a back injury after an accident at the intersection of Pilgrim Road and Good Hope Road, according to a dispatch call that came to the MFFD.

The drunk man driving his van west on Good Hope Road slammed into the back of the squad car while it was waiting to proceed through the intersection. Von Bank said a test at the station revealed the man had a BAC of 0.23.

The force of the impact caused the squad to strike a Chrysler Sebring that was in front of him. The Sebring was driven by a 50-year-old woman with a 49-year-old male passenger. The woman appeared to be favoring her left arm after the accident occured. Von Bank said both were injured, but he did not have specifics regarding their extent.

The 46-year-old man was arrested for OWI-causing injury. It was his first drunk drving offense.
