Falls Caretaker Charged with Stealing From Elderly Woman

Suspect, 28, had two loaded handguns within reach of her children in her home, police say.

A Menomonee Falls caretaker is facing theft charges after she allegedly stole household items from a blind elderly woman she was providing homecare to in Hartland.

Tiffany N. Tomson, 28, was caught stealing items from the woman in 2010 after relatives became suspicious and placed cameras inside the home. The tapes showed Tomson, who is a certified nursing assistant, rummaging through the victim’s belongings and then taking items.

However, the home she took those items back to may have been in need of a caretaker as well.

The complaint states officers went to Tomson’s home and found straws and pen caps used to snort drugs along with two loaded handguns in reach of her children. She admitted to stealing makeup, lip liners, a purse, clock candle and jar of decorated gems, which she said she threw away.

Tomson also gave a pair of designer sunglasses she stole from the victim to a friend, along with a clock made of real ivory, which she told the friend was given to her by the victim because she had been doing such a good job taking care of her.

She was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court Thursday with one count of theft of $10,000 from an elderly person. If convicted, she faces up to 10 years in prison and $25,000 in fines. Tomson will make her initial appearance in court Aug. 24.
