Falls Annual Safety Fair is Canceled

Organizers took a step back from the event this year due to budgetary and personnel constraints.

The Safety Fair has been an annual tradition in Menomonee Falls for quite some time, but the event will not be held in 2013.

The Menomonee Falls police and fire departments combined to host the event each year. The Safety Fair included demonstrations from firefighters, hands-on stations for kids, equipment on display, and more. However, the event has grown to a point where planning and organizing are time-consuming tasks.

It was ultimately decided to cancel the event, and potentially it on a biannual basis.

“The fair takes a lot of time, effort, and funds to put together.  We made the tough decision to cancel it this year and possibly go to an every other year format,” said Director of Protective Services Anna Ruzinski. “We understand what a good event this is for the community, but we have to balance budgetary and personnel restraints when considering a function of this size.”

Ruzinksi said they took a step back from the event this year to reevaluate and revamp the Safety Fair.

“We do hope to counter that with smaller open houses at various fire stations,” Ruzinski said.
