Cycle Rider Caught in Tosa After 120MPH Chase with Falls Officer

Suspect, 23, is captured after escaping motorcycle crash on Capitol Drive freeway exit.

A Milwaukee man is in custody after he led a Menomonee Falls police officer on a high speed chase reaching more than 120 miles per hour on a motorcycle into Wauwatosa early Friday morning.

Vincent Rashad Burnette, 23, was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court Friday with one count of attempting to flee or elude an officer. If convicted, he faces up to 3 ½ years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint, at 1:34 a.m. Friday, the officer noticed a motorcycle turning hard from Good Hope Road to southbound Appleton Avenue with no rear taillights and accelerate at a moderate speed. The officer was unable to get his radar gun properly set up, so he then put on his emergency lights and followed the suspect.

Burnette then saw the officer catch up to him near 124th Street, so he then pulled onto southbound Highway 41/45 and began to accelerate hard. The complaint states the officer’s squad car reached 123 miles per hour, but Burnette’s motorcycle continued to pull away from him.

The officer was able to see the motorcycle until it exited on Capitol Drive, and as he exited the freeway, he found pieces of the motorcycle strewn about and the rest of the vehicle lying against a wall along with a motorcycle helmet.

The officer was unable to find Burnette, but at about 1:51 a.m. Wauwatosa police officers found him in the 12000 block of West Feerick Place. Burnette was vomiting from the crash and was transported to the hospital where he was treated for bruises and road rash from the crash.

Burnette is being held in Waukesha County Jail on $525 cash bond.
