During the evening to early morning hours on Saturday and Sunday, unlocked vehicles parked in driveways were entered. Taken from the vehicles were items such as loose change, iPods, cell phones, wallets, headphones, GPS units and prescription drugs.
The recent neighborhoods that were targeted were Mill Road and Lilly Road subdivisions, and the area of Oxford Street, Merrimac Drive, and Honey Lane between Appleton Avenue and Menomonee Avenue.
Police asking that residents take the following precautions when leaving their vehicles parked outside:
- Remove all valuables from the vehicle: wallets, purses, laptops, cell phones, iPods, etc.
- Lock your vehicles
- Illuminate the exterior of your house/garage if possible.
These thefts are crimes of opportunity. The suspects are not causing damage to the vehicles – only entering those that are unlocked. Additionally, they are most likely arriving in a vehicle and then are transitioning to being on foot - hitting blocks at a time.
Please call the Police immediately if a suspicious person or vehicle is seen in the area. Being able to provide a good description of the vehicle or person(s) at the time of your call is extremely useful (i.e. vehicle make, color, two or four doors, license plate. And for persons, their clothing descriptions, whether they’re male or female, their age range and what direction they left in).
Please report any entries to vehicles no matter what type of items were taken. Reporting these crimes help police target areas and help to establish a time frame for the occurrences - without your reports police will not know of the crime that is occurring.
Should you have any questions or information regarding these thefts, please contact the Menomonee Falls Police Department (262) 532-8700.
