Suspect set up a camera in the bathroom, which was found by the victim while at a Menomonee Falls home in April 2010.

A 44-year-old Butler man is facing charges after he allegedly tried to videotape a teenage girl using the bathroom inside a Menomonee Falls home.

James L. Leissring was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court Wednesday with one count of invasion of privacy. If convicted, he faces up to nine months in prison and $10,000 in fines.

In April 2010, the victim - who was 15 years old at the time - was at a Menomonee Falls home with a friend and relative watching a movie. She said she went to the bathroom a couple of times, and on the second occasion she saw a blinking light and realized there was a camera on a book shelf in the bathroom.

The girls found the camera and later turned it on and immediately saw a picture of Leissring setting up the camera, then saw the victim come in and use the bathroom.

There was also a video of a test shot taken with the camera and another video of the victim and her friend talking with Leissring in the basement of the home.

They told the victim’s mother about the camera and showed her the video. She then showed Leissring’s father and gave him the camera and memory card hoping he would take care of the situation, but she since learned the items went missing.

Leissring refused to answer questions from police, but investigators discovered there had been past incidents where Leissring was standing outside of the victim’s bedroom at night and was picked up a few blocks away on a peeping tom complaint.

He’s currently out of custody and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.
