Alleged Target Thief Could Spend More Than Five Years in Prison

Suspect, 26, and female accomplice allegedly intended to 'steal' for Christmas

A 26-year-old Menomonee Falls man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly stole merchandise several times from an area department store.

Matthew D. Fisher was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court Wednesday with one count of attempted misdemeanor theft, one count of possession of an illegally obtained prescription and one count misdemeanor retail theft after he was arrested Nov. 28 at Target N95W17707 Shady Lane, Menomonee Falls. If convicted, he faces more than five years in prison and $15,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint, Fisher and a female accomplice were spotted by Target employees walking through the store and placing items in a plastic tote and a security guard noticed Fisher from other alleged thefts.

One of the thefts, the complaint alleges, took place just one day before the incident where he recognized Fisher.

The complaint alleges Fisher had also changed the license plate on the vehicle the couple had been using while stealing the merchandise and officers found Suboxone 8, which requires a prescription to legally obtain.

The complaint states the female accomplice allegedly admitted to the thefts and told investigators they came to the store “with the intent of stealing for their Christmases.”
