11 People Evacuated After Tuesday Night Gas Leak

One person was transported to the hospital after apparently falling or passing out.

Last night, neighbors that live near the Village Green apartment complex saw plenty of emergency vehicles outside their homes. However, they weren’t there for a fire.

The MFFD received a call Tuesday at 7:54 p.m. for a report of a gas leak inside the apartment building located at W180N8576 Town Hall Rd. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered natural gas leaking in the building. MFFD Fire Chief Jeffrey Hevey said the readings on their detecting instruments were mild, but concerned them.

As a result, he said 11 people were evacuated as a precautionary measure.

As they were evacuating, several people reported that they felt ill, and one person either fell or collapsed in the roadway, Hevey said. An infant was also evaluated, but didn’t show any signs of a problem.

The others evacuated were given oxygen and a warm place to stay on the scene. They were later cleared and declined futher medical assistance. However, the person who collapsed was transported to the hospital. All those evacuated were back in their homes around 9:30 p.m. after receiving clearance from WE Energies.
