Obituary: Herbert J. Gross

Herb served in the 4th Armoured Division (Patton's Best) in the U.S. Army during World War II.

September 24, 1925 - August 24, 2013

Herbert J. Gross of Menomonee Falls, passed away Aug. 24,2013 at age 87. Beloved husband of Ella. Loving father of Julia (William) Davis, Jeanne (Daniel) Smith, Mary (Alton) Olson, Herb (Teri) and Peter (Debbie) Gross. Dear brother of Virginia Doherty. Further survived by 16 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren other relatives and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday Aug. 29 at at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, N74W13604 Appleton Ave. Military Honors to follow at St. Anthony's Church Cemetery. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28 from at the Schmidt and Bartelt Funeral Home. Memorials to Community Memorial Hospital Foundation appreciated.

Herb served in the 4th Armoured Division (Patton's Best) in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served in 4 Campaigns-Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes and Rhineland including the Battle of the Bulge and the Siege of Bastogne.

He was a graduate of St. Anthony's Grade School, Menomonee Falls High School and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Marquette University.

Herb was instrumental in the formation of the Village of Menomonee Falls and the establishment of Community Memorial Hospital.He was a member of the Menomonee Falls Kiwanis Club, served on the Waukesha County Board along with many other civic endeavors.

The Gross Family would like to give a "special thanks" to the staff at Community Memorial Hospital for all the compassion and care they gave to Herb especially Dr. Patel and Dr. Todd.

         Herb had an absolute love of family.
