Falls Swim Team Founder and Teacher Passes Away

The man who taught middle school for over three decades passed away Friday at the age of 90.

Herbert Keller will be remembered as a coach and motivator in Menomonee Falls. 

The man who taught middle school for over three decades passed away Friday at the age of 90. Keller was a middle school teacher for 33 years received the Governor's Award for teachers in 1985.

He also founded the Menomonee Falls Swim Club and coached the high school swim and the gymnastics teams. He was a member of the Menomonee Falls Optimist Club and various American Legion Posts.

  • "When growing up in Florida I can remember heading to Cape Coral to visit Herb and Mary with my mom, brother, and sister...fond memories," wrote Cory Kleeba.
  • "Mr. Keller's go to catch-phrase during our running classes in middle school phy ed sticks with me to this day, 'Finish strong!'" wrote Matty Wegehaupt
  • "Mr Keller always made gym class fun to go to!!!!!" wrote Ricky Bernard.
  • "Mr. Keller was one of my favorites at TJ," wrote Ray Kosmeder.
A Memorial Service will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15 at the Schmidt at Bartelt Funeral Home, N84W17937 Menomonee Ave. The family will greet friends starting at 4 p.m. until time of the service.
