Labor Shortage in Dental Industry Underscores Need for Qualified Dental Assistants

HARTLAND, Wis., (July 18, 2012) -- Cloud 9 Dentistry, DDS, SC, is currently accepting applicants for its fall Professional Dental Assistant Training LLC school.  The 10-week course is offered on Saturdays, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., starting Sept. 8, at Cloud 9 Dentistry, 3079 Village Square Dr., in Hartland.  Approved by the State of Wisconsin, the training program offers practical training and education in dental assisting by Dr. Grant A. Lemke, a licensed instructor.

"Every dentist needs an assistant," says Lemke.  "This is a job skill that is in high demand and  can be used anywhere in the country."

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of dental assistants is expected to grow by 31 percent from 2010 to 2020, much faster than the average for all occupations, making job prospects optimistic for trained assistants.  A college degree is not required, so opportunities are there for individuals who are just entering the workforce, looking for a career change, or wanting to refine their job skills.

In addition to Dr. Lemke, a practicing dentist for 33 years, the course offers instruction by Cloud 9 dental assistants and dental radiologists. Students are taught basic skills in handling and setting up equipment, mixing dental materials, making impressions, taking x-rays and sterilization techniques.  The students learn and practice on each other and on mannequins.  Dr. Lemke also offers exclusive training in CEREC crown fabrication.  About 10 percent of dentists in the U.S., including Dr. Lemke, can mill crowns on-site while the patient is waiting, and he is the only dentist currently offering limited training in CEREC.  Dr. Lemke offers patients a lifetime guarantee and will replace any crown that chips or breaks, free of charge, as long as they come in every six months.

Tuition for the Professional Dental Assistant Training LLC program is $2,950 and includes a course syllabus, textbook, workbook and dental instruction guide.  Unlike other dental training programs, all dental instruments and materials are provided.

Cloud 9 Dentistry will host an open house on Thursday, Aug. 16 and Thursday, Aug. 23, at 6:30 p.m., for individuals interested in meeting the instructors, touring the new Cloud 9 offices which opened on Monday, July 9, and to learn more about the course offerings.  Individuals can also call 262-367-8195 with any questions.

Dr. Lemke started offering his 10-week Professional Dental Assistant Training LLC school nearly 20 years ago.  The course is designed to give students maximum "hands-on" training and experience.  The classes are held on Saturdays so students can keep their existing jobs and earn a living while they are preparing for a new career.  For information, visit http://www.cloud9dentistry.com/or follow us on Facebook at  http://www.facebook.com/Cloud9Dentistry.
