Mother's Day Café

An outdoor Mother's Day café on Sunday, May 12, at Shady Lane Greenhouses.

It’s a natural fit all the way around…flowers, food, kids and moms. On Sunday, May 12, from 11am to 3pm, Shady Lane Greenhouses is celebrating Mother’s Day with a sweet treat café and children’s activities. Cookies, cake and coffee will be available at the café, thanks to Nino’s Italian Bakery & Deli.

For a nominal $10 fee, which covers all materials, children can “plant some love for Mom.” They'll decorate and arrange a container of colorful annuals that they can then give to their mothers and grandmothers. This same project was offered by Shady Lane during its recent Kid’s Day, and it was a hit.

Named after Karl Hornung, greenhouse owner, Mr. Karl’s Coloring Corner will also be set up on Mother's Day. Of course, Karl will be especially delighted to show children and adults the KFH Legacy. This is the Midwest’s largest permanent g-scale model train and it resides in the House of Blooms; the Legacy will be in full operation on the 12th.

Patio tables and chairs will also be set up in the House of Blooms, the perfect spot to relax with cake and coffee, listen to the chugging and whistling of the engines and watch children fascinated with the railroad.

Weather permitting and just like Shady Lane’s recent Bloomfest, tables and chairs will be placed outdoors where visitors can relax with their refreshments, take in the fragrant, vibrant flora, and enjoy a wonderful spring Mother’s Day.
