4800 Sq. Feet of Fun

The Midwest’s largest permanent garden-scale model train display will be the center of attention at Shady Lane Greenhouses on Saturday and Sunday, April 27-28, from 10am to 4pm. That’s the weekend when greenhouse owner, Karl Hornung, hosts the grand opening of the expansion to his ever-popular KFH Legacy during a 2013 Spring Train Jamboree.

Hobbyists and enthusiasts of all ages will talk train and share their general love of locomotives during the Jamboree.  Children, who are encouraged to dress as train engineers, will find plenty of activities to join, such as an I Spy On The KFH Legacy game and a coloring corner.  It’s a sure bet, however, that most of the kids will want to spend as much time as possible watching the train and taking in the many details they spot in the 4800 square foot display.

A local Boy Scout Troop will grill food and provide beverages; representatives from Garden Railways Magazine and large retailer Wisconsin-Illinois Trains will be on hand to answer questions.  Everyone is encouraged to bring their cameras since there will be many great photo opportunities during the course of this wonderful locomotion commotion.

To add to the excitement, Shady Lane Greenhouses will soon have posted on its website, http://www.shadylanegreenhouse.com/train.php, an I Spy On the KFH Legacy List.  Children can look it over ahead of the Jamboree so they know just what to hunt for when viewing the train.  The greenhouses’ version of a scavenger hut, kids will receive a free treat once they’ve completed the I Spy checklist.
