The Women's Center Annual Luncheon

As an independent, non-profit human service agency founded in 1977, The Women’s Center provides a wide range of free and comprehensive services designed to address the issues of domestic violence and sexual assault.

These services include emergency shelter for abused families, transitional living, counseling, child abuse prevention programming, legal advocacy and employment counseling. The Center also provides Hispanic outreach, community education programs, information and referral services, and a 24-hour crisis line.

The annual Anniversary Luncheon is The Women’s Center’s largest fund raising event. The event offers a keynote speaker who relates to domestic violence, sexual assault or women’s issues.

The purpose of the Anniversary Luncheon is to raise funding and awareness of The Women’s Center and its free programs and services as well as to educate the community on the effects of domestic and sexual violence.

Keynote Speaker: Ann Jones – photographer, journalist and author. Her most recent book, “War Is Not Over When It’s Over” follows her work in post-conflict countries with the International Rescue Committee, where she encouraged women, through photography, to document their lives and speak up for change. That project, and her independent research among Iraqi refugees in the Middle East, is described in this book. She also wrote a series of books about women and violence. Her dispatched articles and photographs from her travels around the world have appeared in magazines and newspapers such as National Geographic Traveler, Outside, and the New York Times. She still visits Afghanistan and reports on developments there for The Nation and online for Tomdispatch.com.
