Here's the agenda for tonight's board meeting. http://board-of-education.sdmf.schoolfusion.us/modules/locker/files/get_group_file.phtml?gid=1479193&fid=18041417&sessionid=512d356e63f6ded358c3fb8a7d705a21 The HR director will present a summary of the district's legal counsel's take on the Act 10 ruling.
Menoparent September 24, 2012 at 01:24 PM
Michele, I have to say this. I know you are president of the PTA. I have noticed you blogging here on the article when ACT 10 was voted unconstitutional last Friday, speaking unkindly of teachers who may be happy about the recent ruling. You should be acting as an unbiased go between teachers and parents. I realize that you ran for board and I voted for you. Now I am sorry I did. Plus, I often hear you say that more parents need to attend PTA meetings to become more involved. But how are you making me or anyone else who feels the same welcome by doing this??
Michele Divelbiss September 24, 2012 at 06:31 PM
Menoparent...I didn't say anything about teachers in either of my comments, so I'm not sure what you felt was said that was unkind. I wondered how the ruling was going to affect other districts who at now operating under the handbook format and don't have contracts, like Menomonee Falls does. I included the link to the board agenda in case others were interested. I will continue to be an advocate for our public schools and, yes, encourage anyone, parent or not, to become as involved as they are able. I am entitled, however, to post as a regular citizen, which is what I'm doing here. I am not acting in any official capacity here. I have never claimed to be the representative voice for our PTA. I suppose I could post under a different name, but I choose to own what I say. I may run again for school board and you'll vote for me or you won't. I attempted to leave the politics out of the school board race and that turned people off. I am about as conservative as they come, yet I had the support of the teachers, because I tried to make the race about maintaining quality schools.

Menoparent I have to say this. Michele has been as neutral as anyone can be. Act 10 was the will of the people, and the reaffirmation of Scott Walker is a mandate. Like it or not- more than half the people are in favor of Act 10.

I have to say that I'm happy with Act 10. I think our district has good teachers and bad teachers. Act 10 will allow the district to pay the good teachers more and give the bad teachers little or nothing until they improve. I almost never agree with what Menoparent posts, but she/he does have a point about the meetings. My problem with people who attend ALL meetings and complaining about those they think don't is. 1. How do you know who does and who doesn't attend these meetings? 2. A lot of people work 40 or more hours a week and just simply can't attend meetings or ALL meetings. 3. The info from the meetings can be found on pod casts and in minutes, so no need to attend them ALL. 4. Parents get involved in the schools in many ways from volunteer work, to attending ALL meetings to just showing up at sporting events, open houses and parent/teacher conferences. To tell someone how they should volunteer is very judgemental.

I agree with you, Craig. While I don't always agree with Michele's viewpoint (although often times I do), I appreciate the fact that she's involved and educated about the topic. It is certainly her right to voice her opinions and I think they carry more weight because she does use her real name and take ownership for her opinions.
