A month-by-month look at the 2011 headlines from Menomonee Falls Patch.

Menomonee Falls was once again a busy and noteworthy place in the month of February. Frustrations with Gov. Scott Walker's budget repair bill spilled over into downtown Menomonee Falls, and a valiant effort to save a dog stuck in a pipe ended tragically. Here's a look at February 2011 in the village.

For several weeks early in 2012 a vandal or group of vandals made it  their weekend ritual to fire BBs into the windows of local businesses with a sling shot or BB gun. BBs were often found on the scene, however police never identified who the culprits were.

Despite the efforts of about 20 firefighters and other rescue workers, a black Labrador retriever named Boomer died Feb. 16  after the dog got away from his owner and fell into a sewer pipe. A follow-up investigation by Menomonee Falls Patch revealed that the by public workers long before the incident occured.

The Menomonee Falls co-op boys swim team may not have displayed depth at the WIAA Division 1 state meet in February, but the representatives who did participate, shined.

Menomonee Falls senior Nathan Cox put on quite a show in the diving portion of the tournament. The future Purdue Boilermaker took first in a landslide, tallying 511.15 points.

Just one month after submitting its original proposal for a large Walmart supercenter on Pilgrim and Lisbon roads, Gatlin Development withdrew its proprosal for a Walmart on the south side of the village.

Remember that recall before the latest recall? Well, as protesters converged on the capitol in Madison they also made their way to downtown Menomonee Falls. On Feb. 16, hundreds marched up and down Appleton Avenue voicing displeasure with Gov. Scott Walker's budget repair bill.
