Police Warn of 'Secret Shopper' Scam

Police say a resident was ordered to wire money to another city, but the orders were fake.

The Menomonee Falls Police Department is warning residents about a “secret shopper” scam.

According to the MFPD, on March 5 a resident was directed to cash postal money orders at her bank then wire the money to an address in another city via a local Western Union office. The resident was then instructed to report back on the service provided by Western Union. Some of the postal money orders were fake, which caused the bank to charge the accounts for the loss. There was substantial financial loss to the victim.

Police are reminding residents to never give out their information via telephone or email.
