Dog Dies After Falling Down Sewer Pipe
About 20 firefighters took part in effort to save black lab.
Despite the efforts of about 20 firefighters and other rescue workers, a black Labrador retriever named Boomer died tonight after the dog got away from his owner and fell into a sewer pipe.
According to a neighbor who lives on Irene Lane, where the incident occurred, the dog ran away from its owner and fell into a pipe that is about 10 to 15 feet deep and is located in a wooded area.
The PVC pipe is used to check for water levels in the area and is about 1-foot in diameter, said Fire Chief Jeffrey Hevey.

Hevey said workers dug around the pipe and tried to cut through it to rescue the dog, but couldn't get to it in time.
Rescuers spent more than an hour trying to save the dog, and a back hoe, three fire trucks and other vehicles were on the scene as part of the rescue effort.
