A suspicious device was found inside a mailbox along Crestwood Drive in Menomonee Falls Sept. 16. The Milwaukee County Sheriff's bomb squad was called in to remove the device, after closing off the street. It turned out to be a used firework.Β 

Ciggy Shack owner Kent Krueger found himself in a battle for his livelihood after the state Department of Revenue required him to shut down his cigarette rolling machines at his business. The state said his business was technically a manufacturer of cigarettes, and as such, he would need to obtain certain licenses and pay additional fees. Krueger joined several other similar businesses throughout the state who fought the regulation.

According to Waukesha County Circuit Court records, Brittany Barcus performed sexual acts with the victim on at least three times when her boyfriend wasn’t home at her residence in the N6500 block of Pewaukee Road in 2010. Barcus had befriended the boy, who is now 14, prior to the assaults and would invite him to her home on daily basis.

In recognition of her dedication to the community and especially the school district, the Menomonee Falls Board of Education awarded Kathy Hazzard with their highest honor, the Distinguished Service Award in September.

The award will not be lonely on her office walls at Travel Leaders, joining a 1990 Friends of Education Award from the school district, and a 2003 Citizen of the Year award from the Menomonee Falls Chamber of Commerce.

After more than a foot of water spilled into the lower level of the YMCA in 2010, massive renovations were needed at the facility. More than a year later, the YMCA opened bigger and better than before after finishing renovations in September.
