Students of the Month, Oratorical Contest Update, And Much More

Optimist Club of Menomonee Falls honors amazing students, students demonstrate their oratorical skills, and upcoming events sponsored by the Optimist's.

March 21 was an amazing day for the Optimist Club of Menomonee Falls.

The day started out with four very deserving student to be honored as March’s Students of the Month. Those students were Jon Mackey from North Middle School, Cole Sterr from St. Anthony’s, Tori Sterr and Daniel Schwalbach from Menomonee Falls High School. The acceptance speeches of these students had club members laughing and crying all at the same time.

Later that day, 18 students from North Middle School, St. Anthony’s, St Mary’s, Ben Franklin, and Shady Lane participated in the club’s annual Oratorical Contest. The contest took place at North Middle School and the topic was “How my Optimism Helps Me Overcome Obstacles.” Students prepared a speech on the given topic which was between 4 to 5 minutes in length and were judged in front of a panel of six judges.

Our youngest participant was 9-year-old third-grader Ty Sardina from Shady Lane. Students finishing in the top 10 are awarded cash prizes from the Optimist Club. The top two students advanced to the Zone Contest, which will be held in Saturday, April 21 at the Milwaukee Public Library. Those two individuals are Isabella Klotz from St. Mary’s who finished in second place, and Madeleine Rhode from North Middle School who finished in first place.

The Optimist Club is very proud of all the students who participated and wish all the best to Madeleine and Isabella as they represent Menomonee Falls at the next level of competition.
