Optimist Club Gets 2013 Distinguished Young Women Scholarship Program Underway

Nine young ladies enter the 2013 Distinguished Young Women Scholarship Program.

Earlier in November, the Optimist Club of Menomonee Falls welcomed nine wonderful young ladies as participants in the 2013 Distinguished Young Women Scholarship Program.

The Distinguished Young Women Program is a nationwide scholarship program that has opened the door of opportunity for many young women. The program honors each participant and encourages her to continue to follow the path of excellence by completing her college education and becoming a leader in her community and profession. The 2013 Menomonee Falls Distinguished Young Women program will take place Feb. 18.

On behalf of myself and our entire committee of volunteers, we proudly welcome the girls and look forward to spending time getting to know each and everyone one of them.  Besides the hours of rehearsals, the girls will have fun performing their talents at a local senior facility, enjoying a bowling outing, spending time with a "Pamper Me" event, and volunteering.  This blog will track the journey of our participants as they prepare for the big day.

The girls will be judged in the categories of scholastics, interview, fitness, talent, and self expression.  The winner of the competition receives a $20,000 scholarship to Carroll University should she chose to attend that school.  In addition she will also receive a $1,000 scholarship from the Optimist Club and a $250 cash award.  The Community League also sponsors a $100 scholarship to the first alternate.  Winners in each of the different categories also receive a $100 cash award.
