Years ago this program was introduced to me when the name was still Jr. Miss. The experience looked like something that I would benefit greatly from so I decided to join in the 2013 Distinguished Young Woman that previous year. The thrill of being on stage in front of a group of people excites me and since this was something that was in my vocabulary of skills, I chose to do it. What could it hurt? The program appeared to only have the tools to make me grow. This opportunity also looked like something that would give me a chance to help others in and outside of the community.

What or who encouraged or motivated you to participate in the DYW Program?

My mother supported me but I motivated myself to participate in the Distinguished Young Women Program and to work hard in school so I could succeed in the in this experience.

What do you hope to get out of the program?

During the journey through this program, I hope to gain memories that I will remember for years to come. This program reminded me of my dance recitals and every year I look forward to them because that is the time to showcase my talent and make many memories. Also, gaining confidence from this program would help me through my years in the future. More importantly, I hope to get the chance to give younger children someone to look up to because I am a young woman that cares about her community and other people in need.

What is something you would like people to know about you?

People should know that I love kids and an opportunity to be a role model for the younger generations is something I dream of. Many children these days are not getting proper role models in their environment. Everybody needs someone to look up to, someone to be like and I want that person for them to be me.

It was truly amazing how Becca was able to fit in rehearsals as she was kept busy with her family's business "Packertime," which sells Packer merchandise and is located in Menomonee Falls.  So if you're ever in need of that got-to-have Packer item be sure to check them out.

I hope you have enjoyed getting to know each one of our nine participants in this year’s Distinguished Young Women Scholarship Program. On behalf of myself and our entire committee we are all so proud of each one of these young ladies. Our judges certainly have a major task at hand in deciding who will become Menomonee Falls 2013 Distinguished Young Woman.

The program will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 18 in the Menomonee Falls High School auditorium. We hope you will consider coming out to cheer on these amazingly talented young ladies. For ticket information please contact myself at dmariscal@wi.rr.com or (262) 250-7680.
