Meet Distinguished Young Woman Participant Eilish Zembilci

Eilish Zembilci stays busy with a wide range of clubs, service, and leadership positions.

Eilish is the daughter of Nancy McDevitt and Harun Zembilci. She recently played the role of "Beth" in the Menomonee Falls High School 62nd Annual Band Revue and did an amazing job.

Her career goal is to become a lawyer or government officer and is hoping to attend Villanova University or American University. Eilish’s activities and achievements include MFHS Student Council Executive Board, Good Shepherd Church Work Camp, Spanish Honors Society, UWM Honors Wind Ensemble, Menomonee Falls Teen Court, Falls/Sussex Youth Leadership, MFHS Link Crew, MFHS Varsity Swim and Track teams, honor roll status all semesters.

She's also in the top 2% of her sophomore class. After all this, she still has time to provide community service to the Catholic Heart Work Camp, Group Work Camp, Hunger Task Force Food Sort, Hartfel House Christmas Crafts, and is the chair person for the Senior Citizen Prom.

When’s she is not busy she likes to read, write, cook, bake, listen and play music on her French horn, travel, and being with friends and family. Wow! Now that is an ambitious young lady. Please enjoy what Eilish would like to share with you below.

Why did you decide to sign up for the DYW Program?

The DYW program is an opportunity to put myself outside of my comfort zone. I believe that self-improvement comes from exposing yourself to new and different experiences. I’m excited to work with such a great group of girls.

What or who encouraged or motivated you to participate in the DYW Program?

My mother was the first person to suggest participating in DYW, but CeCi Scheuber, the Distinguished Young Woman of 2012, was who really encouraged me to join. I liked that this scholarship program was so much more than writing an essay.  What I liked best was the fact that it encompassed who I am and how I present myself as a person.

What do you hope to get out of the program?

I hope to come away with some close friends and better dance moves! My grandmother always told me, “If you’re having fun, then people will want to have fun with you.” But most importantly, I would really like to be a role model for the younger girls of the Menomonee Falls area.

What is something you would like people to know about you?

In the fall of 2013, I hope to be attending a college in the Washington, D.C. area pursuing a double major in Political Science and Spanish. I like to keep active with my friends and I participate on the high school swim and track teams. When I have the time, I really enjoying baking and cooking!

Eilish, thank you for being a part of this year’s program. Your spirit and energy are contagious.

All the girls this past week came out to help serve chili and greet guests at the annual Optimist Club Chili Dinner Fund Raiser and sang the National Anthem along with GiGi Tarantino at the start of the boy’s varsity basketball game on Jan. 13. Just a reminder, you can see all these girls compete for the title of Menomonee Falls 2013 Distinguished Young Woman on at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18 at Menomonee Falls High School. For ticket information, please call Dawn Mariscal at (262)250-7680.
