What Was It Like When You Were in High School?

This is my first blog post and I talk a bit about myself before posing a few questions about the high school students of today compared to other generations.

Looking around the Menomonee Falls Patch I have seen a diverse group of bloggers the gardener Melinda Meyers, the talented drummer Jim Kube (who my brother had for a drum teacher), the inspirational pastor Justin Goodson, and of course the “Ninja Inquisitor” just to name a couple. I’m excited to be among these bloggers and hopefully to add a voice that is just as thought provoking, and interesting as theirs.

My goal here is to talk about issues or events happening in the Falls or in the state politically or socially in the context of a Falls high school student. For example, I might talk about my experiences in Madison and what it meant for me being a student going there. For the most part, I would like my blog posts to be less opinion and more discussion stimulating, however I will warn you when I am going to blog about an opinion.

OK, so enough with the introductions! For my first post I am simply going to pose a few questions about the youth today in the Falls. Being a high school student myself it is often difficult to adequately reflect on my own generation without having it skewed. But, I am curious how older generations view high school students today.

When you think of the teenagers of 2011 what is the first word that comes to mind? What things do we benefit from now (outside of technology), and what different burdens do we bear than our parents? For those who attended MFHS how has it changed? In regards to education, what should we be teaching more or less of in our schools?  Post you’re opinions in the comments section!
