Walmart Neighborhood Market Opens For Business

The largest portion of the major reconstruction project at the corner of Main Street and Pilgrim Road opened at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The wait is over.

For many passers-by on Pilgrim Road and Main Street the opening date of Falls' newest grocery store remained a mystery, and a point of curiosity. Well the veil has lifted, and the Walmart Neighborhood Market is now open for business. It officially fired up the registers at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The Neighborhood Market is a smaller-scale grocery store with an approximate size of 40,000 square feet. The store features a full grocery selection, deli and bakery section, a drive-through pharmacy and a one-hour photo department. There are about 182 stores like these across the country, and each employs about 95 people.

The Neighborhood Market is part of a broader redevelopment project, and three more buildings are still to be constructed over the next year. The Neighborhood Market replaced a vacant Piggly Wiggly location. Interstingly, Piggly Wiggly returned to Falls in summer and replaced the Sentry.
