Fourteen months after a flood severely damaged the , the center staff is inviting the community to a grand re-opening celebration and open house.
Mark your calendars for the event that will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17. It will be a chance to see the transformation that has taken place after a year-long renovation effort.
Flooding in July 2010 left the Center’s lower level unusable and forced the staff to make numerous programming adjustments to accommodate members and guests. To get back on its feet, the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee initiated a fundraising effort to not only repair the center, but improve the amenities offered.
Jumpstarted by a generous lead gift of $200,000 from John and Linda Mellowes and followed by strong support from community members and organizations, the YMCA raised more than $485,000.
“We are extremely grateful for the Mellowes contribution and countless other community partners and members for their tremendous support in rebuilding and renovating the Tri-County YMCA,” said Geoff Mertens, center executive of the Tri-County YMCA. “Now it’s time to celebrate our transformation, and we are delighted with what these renovations mean for us as we continue to build and empower a healthy, confident and connected community.”
The celebration is free and offers attendees a tour of the facility to see first hand the following updated and renovations:
- State of the art bi-level fitness center
- Two-lane upper level indoor walking/running track
- New cycling and group exercise studios
- Family gym
- Newly renovated locker rooms, Preschool Enrichment classroom, and classroom space
- Designated personal training room
- New beginner-friendly equipment
The event will also offer attendees a chance to register for great door prizes, take part in special kids activities and enjoy refreshments.
As an added bonus to the celebration, the Tri-County YMCA is offering a special membership opportunity – sign up for a membership at the Tri-County YMCA during the month of September and receive the month of September free along with $75 off a membership package.
