Lakewood Outdoor Products Set to Open Falls Store in November

Small sporting good store at Main Street and Appleton Avenue will specialize in hunting and outdoor accessories.

A Brown Deer man and his father are seeking to turn their passion into a small business right in the heart of downtown Menomonee Falls. Brandon Walls and his father, David Walls, are planning to open Lakewood Outdoor Products at N88W16741 Main Street. If all goes well, the store will open its doors by November 1.

“We’ve been hunting our whole lives,” said Brandon Walls.  “My dad’s been taking me hunting ever since I could walk and it’s just a little passion that we have that we thought we’d try to turn into a small business. We offer quality products and great prices and in our online sales we offer a great shipping price.”

Lakewood Outdoor Products, which started out with online sales on eBay and Amazon, sells accessories for gun and bow hunting, archery, camping, hiking and outdoor survival.

“I always had a passion for selling so we started out on eBay and Amazon and it just keeps growing,” said Walls. “We grew enough where we needed office space and this building had some retail space so we thought we’d give that a try. It was a no-brainer when you get an office and retail in one.”

The sporting goods store will offer a lot of smaller items but will not sell guns, bows or ammunition. Instead, it will offer everything in between, including game calls, shell holders, tent repair kits, equipment to sight guns and bows. The store will also sell a limited amount of apparel items such as gloves, hats, face masks, and bandanas.

Walls, 28, grew up in Brown Deer and graduated from Brown Deer High School. However, he also lived in Menomonee Falls for a short time and that was enough to convince him that he would someday like to move to the Falls. His business idea seemed like a perfect opportunity to make the move.

“I knew someone who knew the lady we are leasing our building from, plus I liked the Menomonee Falls area,” Walls explained. “I’ve always thought that if I ever moved out of Brown Deer I would probably move to the Falls. There are quite a few nice people, a lot of shops and everything you would need is right in the Falls.”

While Walls is excited to start the retail end of his business, he admits he doesn’t know how things will work out, especially during the first year.

“I really don’t know what to expect,” said Walls. “Whenever I’m at the office I see a lot of foot traffic and car traffic in the area and it seems like a great area for business. But I don’t know what to expect on the retail end of things.”

For now, he and his father are content to just keep building on their dream.  Their new website, www.lakewoodoutdoorproducts.com, is in the process of being built.
