Great Escape: Old Falls Village Museum

Take a step back in time and glimpse life back in early 1800s Menomonee Falls

Every week, Patch will highlight a “Great Escape” located in the Menomonee Falls-Sussex area where couples, singles or families can have fun and relax.

This week our Great Escape takes us to a historic outdoor museum found at the intersection of County Line Road and Pilgrim Road in Menomonee Falls. Nestled on the grounds of a beautiful 17-acre park, Old Falls Village Museum gives a glimpse of how life was in the late 1800s to early 1900s around the Falls area.

Featuring a variety of historic homes and buildings, this living history museum includes a log home, school house, barn, railroad depot, log cabin and dairy. The centerpiece of the museum is the 1858 Miller Davidson House, listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The museum allows for guided tours of the buildings, which feature antiques and artifacts of the historic period. Tours are available by appointment from May to September. For more information, call (262) 250-3901.

Besides the museum buildings, there is a country store and an outdoor picnic area for visitors to sit back and relax.

The first major event of the season hosted by the museum will take place on June 4-5, as the sixth annual Flea Market/Antique/Craft Fair opens up to the public. Vendors are invited to participate in the event, and should call Vikki Schmidt at (262) 255-5065 for more information.

Also, Old Falls Village Days will take place June 4-5. There will be old farm equipment (some in operation), displays and demonstrations. Artisans dressed up in historic garb will demonstrate the early skills. Food and entertainment will also be available.

Old Falls Village is operated by the Menomonee Falls Historical Society and the museum is located at N96W15791 County Line Rd.
