CVS Construction Project Gets Underway This Week

Engineers will start some exterior site work and disconnect plumbing utilities this week.

Site work at the proposed site of the new CVS pharmacy is expected to begin this week according to a village official.

Community Development Director Matthew Carran said Tuesday that engineers would begin disconnecting plumbing utilities this at the vacant Griffin Dodge dealership at the busy intersection of Pilgrim Road and Appleton Avenue. Some exterior work will also begin, but engineers still need permits to begin the demolition of the building.

“You will start to see some site work there this week,” said Carran. “They will be moving forward with demolition permits this week.”

The progress of the CVS Pharmacy project has been a question on the minds of many residents in Menomonee Falls.

CVS gained approval in October 2010 to build a 13,225-square-foot pharmacy with a drive through in the parking lot of the former car dealership. As part of the overall development, CVS will raze the existing buildings on the site and open up roughly three acres to future development.

Last month, engineers visited the site and discovered contamination in the fuel tanks buried underground on the site. However, it is not clear if this delayed the project from moving forward.

It is expected that construction of the pharmacy will be completed by 2012.
