Bites Nearby: Tony Maronni's

Award-winning pizza you can build yourself.

Tony Maronni’s, located at N63W23951 Main St. in Sussex, claims to have the best pizza in town. But, unlike other establishments, they’ve got the awards to prove it.

Opened in September of 2006, Maronni’s started as a take ‘n bake operation, where customers come in and build their own pizza from the crust up, then take it home to bake. In 2008, Tony added an oven, and has since been serving dine-ins, deliveries, and the faithful take away patrons, explained head cook Jay Berger.

When asked what dish is the most popular at Maronni’s, Berger curtly replied that it’s pizza, of course. Berger went on to illuminate that the big award winner of Maronni’s is Noah’s pizza, preset with Italian sausage, pepperoni, caramelized onions, sautéed portabella mushrooms, fresh mozzarella, and green onions ($23.24 for a medium). This prize jewel of Maronni’s snagged the “Best Pizza in the Midwest” in 2008 by the International Pizza Committee, and went on to place seventh in an international competition.

The success of Maronni’s pizzas can be directly attributed to the fresh ingredients they put in them, from the sauce to the Wisconsin Grande cheese on top.

Hours for Tony Maronni’s are: Sun. through Thurs., 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Fri. and Sat., 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
