Obama's 19th Pivot to the Economy

I have not written for a while, because all political issues with the re-election of Obama amount to arguing on how to rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic. I have come to the conclusion that our day of reckoning is likely many years out, as conservatives we need to continue to push towards the correct policies where we can to delay or reduce the scale of the crash. We also need to be ready to win support after the crash.

First, I will start by admitting I was wrong on my expectations for the election, like many conservatives I assumed that Obama’s base would not show up as strong to re-elect a proven failure on both foreign and domestic policy, like they did when he was blank slate with no accomplishments, but no great failures either. I also assumed that everyone not in his base understood what was at stake and would care enough to vote to save the nation from a disaster. It may be easy to predict the damage from progressive policies, but a poorly informed electorate a harder to predict.

President Obama is now claiming to be worried about dealing with the economy to move attention away from the most serious scandals by a President in my lifetime. Obama has never cared to focus on the Economy. Obamacare is the proof of that. Rather than focus on the economy he focused on government control of healthcare, right after the failed stimulus plan was pushed through to pay back special interest supporters. Now Obamacare is the biggest threat to our economy and yet repealing that is not in his proposal for the economy. We are in a so called recovery, but job creation this year is still slow for a recovery, but worse than that, 90% of the jobs created this year are part time the reverse of the normal 90% being full time jobs. But the Democrats do not care that we are being transformed into a part time nation and this is even with the unions complaining about it. The reason is simple, they may be freaking out that Obamacare will cost them in the 2014 elections, but they know the subsidies and massive numbers of people thrown off employer insurance in to exchanges collecting those subsidies will make repeal impossible. This will create a permanent majority of takers to abuse the 30%-40% paying the cost, at least until it collapses. Big government will have won so who cares if our standard of living is lowered. To Democrats it is a small price to pay for the progressive utopia.

The only idea the president proposed that makes any sense is lowering the corporate tax rate, but that needs to be down to at least 20% without his many of his idiotic ideas to increase revenue by other tax adjustments. He only made this proposal to kill the bipartisan efforts led by Democrat Max Baucus in the Senate. Obama’s objective is more revenue not proving the economy. The rest of his ideas amount the ideas same tried and failed with previous stimulus plans designed to give money favorite special interest groups rather than help the economy or create jobs.

Most of the time Presidents get too much credit or blame for changes in the economy, but here it is clear Obama and Democrat policies continue to stymie a recovery and he deserve much more blame than he is getting.  We should be in a boom time with massive job creation if Obama cared to allow it. Of course this starts with Obamacare repeal. The next thing is to encourage the energy boom underway despite Obama’s efforts to stop it. Stop the EPA from regulating Carbon Dioxide as a pollutant and end the war on coal. Drill for oil and gas where we can. Cut all support to wind, solar, and ethanol mandates. If Natural Gas can be used in transportation replacing oil then maybe there might be a role for government to encourage pipelines and infrastructure. This serious move to energy independence would be transformative to our economy as we stop shipping dollars around the world for oil.

Obama has proposed a so called grand bargain that if GOP would agree to raise revenue from corporations in a fake reform package, he would agree to spend the money on his favorite special interest groups. He is assuming people are extremely stupid and will buy what he is selling. If instead we would Repeal Obamacare, encourage energy boom, cut regulations like Sarbanes-Oxley, Dodd-Frank, etc., and cut corporate taxes to 20% we would be in an economic boom.  But since Obama will not discuss these ideas it is clear he could care less about creating jobs or the economy.
