Obama's Assault on the U.S. Constitution

Obama's battle with the Catholic church is not about birth control.

I think President Barack Obama has shown what he thinks of the United States Constitution with his fight with the Catholic Church. It does not matter what you think about abortion or birth control for this issue. This is about the First Amendment, and do we still have religious freedom if the government thinks their agenda is more important?

Obama polled and found the vast majority of Catholics in the U.S. do not follow the teachings on birth control, so he thought he could push his agenda without a price for limiting religious liberty. It does not matter if the members are following the church teachings, it is still the right of churches to set their own doctrine. Clearly they should not be forced to provide or pay for something that they feel is immoral. This would include paying for birth control for anyone including people they employ in any of their operations.

The solution Obama proposed is ridiculous. He states he will just make the insurance company provide it for free. Insurance companies will just pass that cost on to the church. His argument that it will save the insurance company money is faulty. First off all, if insurance companies believed that, they would already provide it for free. Also, I have never heard of a person with a job, who had a baby because they did not want to pay for birth control. Even if Obama is right, the church should still have the freedom to get quotes for insurance without that coverage and choose what they want to do.

Obama and the Democrats, like Tammy Baldwin, that are supporting this assault on freedom are now making it clear they do not respect the constitution or our rights. It is our patriotic duty to defend our rights by voting every one of them out of office.

The issue is far more important with a president since they appoint people to the Supreme Court. Many pro-choice people have been so concerned about abortion that they have fought to get people on the court that are willing to ignore what the constitution says. Progressives that hate the constitution stoke fears about abortion to get support to appoint justices who will help them achieve their agenda despite what the constitution says. Do you really want to trade all the guarantees the constitution gives, for abortion on demand?

You may not care about this issue, but if government can take your rights away, what rights will they take next? We will be at the mercy of the majority to decide what freedom we can have. With people like Supreme court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg who told people in Egypt to not look to our constitution, and two Obama appointees on the Supreme Court, the constitution is hanging by a thread right now. As Ronald Reagan said:

Freedom is a fragile thing and is never more than one generation away from extinction. It is not ours by inheritance; it must be fought for and defended constantly by each generation, for it comes only once to a people. Those who have known freedom and then lost it have never known it again.” ~ Ronald Reagan, from his first inaugural speech as governor of California, January 5, 1967

@Say What...You are a person after my own heart. My favorite is BBC America. I too get most of my information from reading, NPR, and PBS. It has been years since I tuned in Fox, MSNBC or CNN. Local media is too much fluff and not enough substance.
James R Hoffa February 16, 2012 at 02:29 am
@Lyle -
That it is, but what I find more interesting is that it's still practiced by many of the non-diehard faithful in this day of age, which is in stark contrast to the majority of practicing Catholics that have given up or abandoned many of their tenants in assimilating with current popular culture sentiments.
Say What? February 16, 2012 at 02:32 am
Tonto,
If I wanted to listen to a raving lunatic, I would listen to Gilbert Goddfried. Lyle, My favorite shows are almost all BBC based. I do feel that there is still some individuals from England that rant the ideologies, but their news about us is always kinda funny, and mostly accurate.
Tonto February 16, 2012 at 02:48 am
I respect your input.....We are all Americans :)
Lyle Ruble February 16, 2012 at 02:53 am
@Say What....I am a big fan of British comedy, Dr. Who, etc My other addiction is documentaries. I catch a little C-SPAN, especially on the weekend with Book TV. There's a new book I just ordered "Pity for Billionaires", I can't wait to read it. I'll let you know what it's like.

Bryant, you do realize that President Obama's policy on this comes from the Republicans right?

Like communism. "socialism" ? (differance)? is a proven failure. There ia a reason CAPITALISM has doninated the planet :)

did i tell you i can't spell for @#$ ?
Say What? February 16, 2012 at 03:01 am
Lyle,
My favorite one right now is Mongrels. Its a highly witted silly puppet show. Not for everyone. But, I have watched Coupling, Greenwing, Black Books, and others like QI.
Bren February 16, 2012 at 03:03 am
I do watch FOX, MSNBC and BBC World News. The rest of my information comes from research. Internet newspapers are a wonderful development! What other time in history could I read the Boston Globe, Washington Post, New York Times, and Guardian U.K. every day, when the news is same-day fresh! I remember as a kid how our issues of (the late) France Soir were always weeks old when they arrived.
There are a lot of things wrong in the world, but this is brilliant!
Tonto February 16, 2012 at 03:03 am
Communism, aka socialism, sucks. Its a proven failure. How is my spellin?
Lyle Ruble February 16, 2012 at 03:15 am
@Tonto...You do realize that humans, as a species, have lived as communists for most of our existence. Capitalism has only been with us for about 450 years. Most developed nations are social democracies with "soft capitalism". Any natural catastrophe would put us back into hunter-gatherer and subsistence communist societies. That is our natural state.

I'm pretty sure this is Wisconsin's current policy, but, ssshhhh, let's not give anyone ideas.
Say What? February 16, 2012 at 03:18 am
Tonto,
Where are you going with this?
James R Hoffa February 16, 2012 at 05:29 am
@Lyle -
Are you a 'Red Dwarf' fan by chance? I also quite enjoy Leo McKern's 'Rumpole' and Patrick McGoohan's 'The Prisoner.'

@Patrick Ford...Great summary. To be well informed requires reading and listening to a wide variety of sources. With online access, we now have the resources available to keep informed.
What I have found is the "Fox News Crowd" loves to have a "Readers Digest Version" of opinions, all with one slant; making it easy to repeat in talking point style and to regurgitate it over morning coffee, the beer after work at the local tavern, or the fundraiser cocktail party. Listening to the local opinion entertainment is enlightening just to understand what the uncomplicated will be talking about during the days to come. Someone like Noelle Lorraine understands the entertainment game and will most likely wind up somewhere on some talk radio station. What is sad is that she believes her own schtick and will continue as the "Pied Piper" of misinformation. Bryant, who appears to be a very angry man, is that guy who Belling lets onto his broadcast, only to be Belling's setup man. Bryant, who is a bright guy, is one of those who self limits his information resources. He too rejects anything that may violate his preconceived notion of truth and reality. Finally, the local village idiots, who spew vitriolic hate just for the fun of it. They have nothing to add to the discourse and are like exclamation marks randomly thrown in willy nilly. I miss the days of the true intellectual conservatives who are well educated and capable of arguing their perspective civilly.
Tonto February 16, 2012 at 01:52 pm
I usually watch MSNBC, CBS, CNN, Wash Post & the NY Times. Only when I want to check for the truth I go to Fox news. I am always amazed at the wild stories and how long it takes the whole liberal bunch to try to explain Obama.
robert heule February 16, 2012 at 02:09 pm
When there is a constitutional question serious enough for the Catholic church to be concerned., it should go to a Federal District court and sue the government.

With all due respect, I think that you're grossly misjudging Ms. Lorraine. If I'm not mistaken, you have often claimed and defended the notion that we are sometimes formed into the resultant product of the environment in which we've had to grow in. In fact, I seem to recall you using such rational when we were discussing the Chicago Housing Authority some time ago. Ms Lorraine has developed a "snarky," in quoting you, offensive style and retributive defensive style because ever since she started engaging in politics, she's had to almost exclusively bear the full force of uncivil discourse from the overly flamboyant members of the opposing end of the political spectrum. It also doesn't help that when met by a civil intellectual from the opposite side, such as yourself, she's immediately assessed upon first impression as being "uncomplicated," which quite frankly doesn't bode all that well as far as the whole intellectual elitist label goes, does it? Remember, just because she's on the right doesn't mean that she doesn't have or feel emotion, as after all, we're all still human beings. Ms. Lorraine just so happens to be a very emotional member of the right and a far more complex and passionate person than you give her credit for.
James R Hoffa February 16, 2012 at 06:10 pm
Perhaps if 'lefties' like you were a little more tolerant, patient, and understanding of her situation, she'd become the civilized intellectual sparring partner that you so desperately seek. After all, I thought that was the kind of hallmark 'compassion' that you guys on the left are supposed to be infamous for displaying via all your social welfare programs and the like.
Your assessment and brush off of Ms. Lorraine doesn't conform very well with the practice of the theoretical leftist ideology, and if you are being honest with yourself here, then I think that you realize this to be the case.
Lyle Ruble February 16, 2012 at 06:57 pm
@JRH...Look my friend, you and I are more closely linked than most people would suppose. There is not much we share in political positions, but I respect what you have to say because you are most capable of seeing other perspectives. When you and I civilly argue, it makes me a better thinker and I would hope that I might have the same impact on you. I am fully aware that the nurture aspect of human development helps determine personality and world view. I also admit that you have achieved a level of maturity not often found in someone of your years, but her overly emotive style is not something that I feel is worth dealing with, no matter the antecedent that has led to her current condition. Her defensive style is a dysfunctional ego defense mechanism. My view is to debate in the style of William F. Buckley and Irving Kristol, conservatives to be sure; but, accomplished intellects. When she was corrected about her statement in Lincoln freeing the slaves and she wouldn't acknowledge her error and she kept defending herself with snarkisms, it became apparent that she didn't have anything to add. I even congratulated her for her successful event, but then out of curiosity, I Googled her and found out a little information concerning her background, she lost my respect and any credibility. I will probably still read her blogs, but I will not be responding to them and will encourage others to follow my lead.
James R Hoffa February 16, 2012 at 07:09 pm
@Lyle -
I understand and empathize with your position here, but are you saying that she's lost all credibility in your eyes merely because of the groups that she happens to be affiliated with? Would you have neglected to engage with Dr. Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. just because of the groups that he was affiliated with? Or is it the content of the groups involved as opposed to mere membership that has you reacting as you are to the situation? I'm just trying to understand why these groups are an issue for you as I thought you encouraged collectivism.
James R Hoffa February 16, 2012 at 07:13 pm
@Lyle -
BTW - Thanks for the kind words, they're very much appreciated. You should already know that I hold you in the utmost respect and consider you a friend, and yes, you indeed help me to become a better thinker as well. I look forward to meeting in person someday if the opportunity ever presents itself.
Lyle Ruble February 16, 2012 at 08:03 pm
@JRH...I am very concerned with the content and composition of the groups she is affiliated with. SGP claims to be non-partisan, but they are as partisan as you can get. Much of the organization seems to be a celebration of the Sarah Palin type woman. You know how I feel about the Tea Party, what started as a true grassroots movement was co-opted by a bunch of ex-Washington power insiders. I feel the same about the 99% movement being co-opted by the Democrats. I was a part of the MLK movement, and I knew some of the connections that were associated with the movement. My father had a cow over it because of some communist affiliated groups. He was constantly afraid of not being able to hang onto his security clearance because me. It's funny, when I enlisted in the navy, they withheld my security clearance for a year because of civil rights activities. Ask me if I have any respect for JJ, absolutely not, pure scam artist. This is why I remain independent of political parties and attempt to go my own way. One of the things that bothered me about the Support Walker Rally was what Noelle put in her blog, it felt more like a "Greek Week" event for college students. Pictures and comments sounded more like they came from "bros" and "bro-hoes" than from serious and committed people. I was deeply offended about somebody making the comment: "conservative women are hot"! Also I was disturbed with mau's comment about "liberals fear strong conservative women" (continued)
Lyle Ruble February 16, 2012 at 08:09 pm
@JRH...(continued) The exchange between mau and Noelle was in essence that Keith resented strong women because he could never have any of them. What kind of comment is that? Certainly not someone who wants to be taken seriously. I just feel like Noelle has turned the forum into a school yard and adults aren't welcome. If it continues like this, I have better things to do with my time.
Craig February 16, 2012 at 08:23 pm
Lyle: I think a good part of the problem with posts are they are wriiten word. Open to interpretation as to the tone of the comment. Reading (banter) posts often has me picturing shouting back and forth, which is likely not the way they were intended to be. Snarky comments may be intended to add a little humor to the conversation, but can also be perceived as hateful.
Just as a point of reference: A few days ago you replied to a comment of mine that I was uninformed. That same statement could mean you were calling me an uneducated, stupid, simpleton. If we had not had a history of disagreement with mutual respect, I may have replied with my own snarky comment fanning the flame wars further.
Lyle Ruble February 16, 2012 at 08:29 pm
@Craig...Point well taken. For those of us who know one another on the forum, I think we understand each others style and intent. Usually, I can tell the difference between sarcasm and hateful intent. Bob McBride comes to mind. He has a razor sharp wit and can be quite cutting, but he also is quite humorous. That's why I tried to clue Noelle in, that he was a supporter.
Bren February 16, 2012 at 11:53 pm
Mr. Hoffa--I was so frustrated when we had to cancel our trip to Portmeirion, "the" village from The Prisoner when we were in Wales back in '09. That is one of the most surreal shows I have ever seen, and one of the best!
Red Dwarf and Rumpole are also favorites, but I must put in a word for Cadfael as well!
Michael Woogh February 17, 2012 at 10:48 am
Before speaking for or against the Constitution, you should at least read it! It is time to know your Constitution! Go and download a new app “The Constitution of the USA” for Free for Android http://bit.ly/wbakR1 & Nook http://bit.ly/yq18H0 right now!

I am sorry...I cant believe you quote Ronald Reagan on the fragility of freedom. His pal, the Guatemalan dictator, Rios Montt, is about to stand trial for genocide. He was heavily supported by Ronald Reagan. Two hundred thousand Guatemalans were slaughtered. Reagan on freedom? What about the freedom of the victims of state terrorism in Latin America?

First of all, you don't pay taxes. Second, 90% of the proceeds go to huge corporations. Third, it isRead More very disingenuous for you to say that "80% of relief goes to President Obama's definition of middle-class taxpayers." In more appropriate words, that is a flat out LIE.

I agree too. But WISN likes to run the light version of news, only covering topics they feel weRead More should know about- or fits their agenda.

I think that the Patch is making a sincere effort to actually get into what Conservatives refer toRead More as “elite journalism.” What Conservatives mean by that is, people who read, write, present facts, and possess the ability to actually analyze written articles, and provide fact-based responses, rather than snarky, juvenile or scatological, religious dogma.
