Who Won $337 Million Powerball Lottery Drawing?

The winning ticket was sold in Lapeer, Michigan. Whomever holds that lucky ticket just got a couple hundred million dollars richer.

One lucky winner in Michigan is waking up this morning with some serious financial stability.

Going into Saturday's drawing, the Powerball lottery jackpot sat at $300 million, but when there wasn't a winning ticket that night, it rolled up to $320 million. By Wednesday night, just a couple of hours before the numbers were drawn, the jackpot shot to $337 million.

The winning numbers were 6, 27, 46, 51, 56, and the Powerball was 21.

Unfortunately, nobody from Menomonee Falls won the big prize. In fact, we don't know who the winner is yet.

The winner hasn't come forward and probably won't for a couple of days, but according to a story from CNN.com, the golden ticket was sold at a Sunoco station in Lapeer, MI. The small town is located about 45 miles south of Detroit.

When a reporter with seattlepi.com called the gas station about the ticket, the person who answered the phone was too busy, he said, to talk. The gas station will get a $50,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket there.

If the winner takes the lump sum, they'll net $241 million before taxes, still a nice chunk of change. The Powerball website lists a $2 million Power Play winner in Nebraska and eight, $1 million Match 5 winners in Indiana, Kansas, Kentuscky, New Jersey, New Mexico, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

Here in Wisconsin, some 49,823 people hold a winning ticket in some fashion, including:

  • Match 4 + Powerball = 1
  • Match 4 = 66
  • Match 3 + Powerball = 107
  • Match 3 = 3,842
  • Match 2 + Powerball = 1,932
  • Match 1 + Powerball = 12,913
  • Match Powerball only = 26,789

There are 42 states, including Wisconsin and Illinois, along with the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands that participate in Powerball.

And while $337 million is a huge jackpot, it pales in comparison to the record-setting $656 million MegaMillions payout that went to three winning ticket-holders back in March.
