Village Leaf Collection Begins Later This Month

Residents are reminded to keep their leaf piles free of brush and other yard waste.

It's that pesky time of year when the seemingly unending task of raking becomes a bit of a national pastime - depending on your climate.

To make things a little easier, the village will begin its annual leaf collection program in a week or two. If you live in an area with curb and gutter, just rake your piles to the curb and village worker will make their rounds to your street.

Some piles may linger a bit longer this year as the village implements a new process for collection. The Wisconsin State Patrol has prohibited the use of the massive leaf vacuums rigged to a truck. The change came in the wake of a pair of accidents involving the trucks. The vacuums limited lines of sight in the trucks.
Instead, the village has rented a few garbage trucks and will deploy a pair of small vehicles equipped with "leaf pushers." The new technique should reap some savings as the process will be less labor intensive.

Residents are reminded that brush and other yard waste are not permitted in your curbside piles. Homeowners will be notified if they are in violation, and will be asked to remove brush before their leaves are collected.

The leaf collection process reduces the chance of flooding from heavy rains and clogged gutters. The collection will continue until all the streets are cleared.
