Rosoce Still Missing, Family Losing Hope

Four days have passed since the Langhoff family caught a glimpse of their German shorthair that's been on the loose for more than a week.

It's been four days since Kirk and Tammy Langhoff caught an encouraging glimpse of their missing dog, Roscoe, and their reserve of hope is starting to run out.

More than a week ago, that Roscoe broke off his leash in Menomonee Falls, but has been spotted several times within a 40-acre wooded area near Water Street and Roosevelt Drive. A bar owner, city worker, and a man who works outdoors all spotted — but couldn’t catch — the dog. Roscoe was also spotted on a trail camera Sunday and most recently on Tuesday.

However, there haven’t been any Roscoe sightings to report over the past four days, and food used to lure the elusive pup into a cage has gone uneaten. The Langhoff’s are started to lose hope that he’s still in the area.

“We are losing hope a bit,” wrote Tammy Langhoff Saturday in an email to Patch. “It has been four days since he was last spotted on camera or since food has been missing, and we think he is now out of the area. What a nightmare.”

For the Langhoffs, Roscoe is more than just a dog. He was a symbol of that has seen plenty of difficult times.

Family, friends, and strangers have spent countless hours driving around looking for the dog, who was to become a source of income as well as hope for the family. Kirk Langhoff is the former owner of Northwoods Gunsmithing in Hartford. The small gun store couldn’t compete with larger big box stories and Langoff, who is now unemployed, was going to use Roscoe for guided hunts.

He was spotted by a bar owner, a city worker, and a man who works outdoors. However, no one could catch the dog.

Tammy Langhoff cautioned that people should not try to chase Roscoe if they see him and shouldn’t go searching for him in the wooded area. People who specialize in finding lost dogs told the Langhoffs that this could spook the dog and cause him to run out of the area.

If people spot Roscoe, they can contact the police or Kirk Langhoff’s cell phone at (262) 707-7048. Langhoff is offering a $200 reward for his return
