Old Falls is a Nation Divided Saturday and Sunday

The annual Civil War Encampment returns this weekend in Menomonee Falls.

Earlier this summer, Old Falls Village brought residents to a peaceful community from a time long passed. However, this weekend the village will be a nation torn, and at war.

Woolen-clad soldiers and Abraham Lincoln are pitching camp at the annual Civil War Encampment from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday in Old Falls Village. The days are filled with infantry drills, artillery demonstrations, shooting competitions, and even a 19th century fashion show.

Each day the picket lines will form at 1:30 p.m. and re-enacted war will be waged at 2 p.m. After both battles, former president Abraham Lincoln – played by Nicholas Bur – will inspire the war-weary residents of Old Falls Village before the festivities conclude.

Since Old Falls Village will be the location of a ‘military occupation’ this weekend, it would be wise to avoid becoming a war criminal. There’s no rule against fraternizing with soldiers (re-enactors), but be sure to follow the golden rule of the encampment: “If the tent is tied, don’t look inside.”

They’ve planned a tar and feathering scenario at the Navy Camp both days – it could be for violators.

Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 6-14. Children under six get into the event free. Fortunately, hard tack and water aren’t the only items on the menu Saturday and Sunday. Kraverz Frozen Custard and Northwoods Kettle Corn will take care of that.
