Lost Dog, Bingley, Reunites With Owner

After a few days of searching, Kathy Loftus found her dog, but with the help of many neighbors. After a chase that crossed Pilgrim Road twice, the two were finally reunited.

If you’ve seen the movie “Homeward Bound,” you know how heartwarming a long-awaited reunion with a lost dog can be.

Well, for one Menomonee Falls family , Bingley, their hearts were a little warmer Tuesday.

On Tuesday, Kathy Loftus received a call from Cheri Scherbarth who spotted Bingley walking on the sidewalk near Pilgrim Road and Good Hope Road while she was on her way to work. She knew he was missing, and could tell from his "Green Bay" collar who he was. Bingley had left the family home on Elm Lane recently, and Loftus was searching near and far for him.

When Loftus arrived on the scene, Bingley bolted and ran across Pilgrim Road into morning traffic. Loftus would like to thank all the drivers who kindly dodged Bingley on their morning commute.

The white Bischon and Shitzu mix darted into the Pilgrim Glen condominiums while several people pointed Loftus toward the direction he had ran. Unfortunately, he turned and crossed Pilgrim Road a second time escaping vehicles a secong time. However, Sherbarth finally located him once again under a tree on Eileen Avenue.

“When I got there, I walked across the vacant lot he was in and had to sit down twice because he was ready to bolt,” Loftus said. “He walked over to me and once he was within two feet he recognized me and we had our happy reunion!”

Loftus got an early clue that Bingley was still roaming the streets on Sunday after a Patch reader sent an email to alert her that the dog had been spotted.

In the end, it was a caring community that stepped up to help locate Loftus’ lost canine companion.

“I know a lot of people in the Falls were looking for him.  The shop owners on Appleton were all so nice to let me post flyers,” Loftus said. “Thank you to everyone, and thank you also to anyone who avoided hitting Bingley with their car on Pilgrim Road.”
