Family and Friends Seek Community Support for Woman's Battle Against Cancer

Organizers are seeking donations for the event's raffle and auction.

Menomonee Falls residents are rallying around a teacher, wife and mother who was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 35.

On Aug. 15, Megann Schnickel of Menomonee Falls underwent a double mastectomy and reconstruction. Unfortunately, Schnickel's health insurance ended on July 31. She's since been juggling doctor appointments, surgery, preparing her 4-K kindergarten classroom, and trying to locate new health insurance.

Friends and Family of Schnickel's are now stepping up to raise funds for her medical and living expenses, and they are asking for the help of the community. They are holding the "Help Save Megann's Coconuts" benefit starting at 3 p.m. Sept. 21 at Lucky Joe's Tiki Room in Milwaukee's Third Ward, 196 S. 2nd St.

Organizers have planned a silent auction, basket raffles, food, beverages and a bake sale. Most of the drawings will take place at 6 p.m. Saturday. They are still looking for businesses to donate items for the auction or raffle. Your name will be placed on a poster board during the event.

If you have any questions about attending the event or making a donation, please contact Danielle Bernard via email, or Margie Schnickel via email.
