Falls Family Finds Missing Dog After Nearly Two Weeks

Langhoff family tells Patch that Roscoe — who had been missing since June 25 — has been found, but is injured.

Members of the Langhoff family in Menomonee Falls breathed a sigh of relief Sunday after finding their dog Roscoe, a German shorthair that ran away nearly two weeks ago.

But this story isn't all good news as owner Tammy Langhoff said Roscoe has severe injuries to one of his legs and is facing amputation or reconstructive surgery.

, just a few hours after the Langhoffs had purchased the pooch.

The dog had been spotted several times within a 40-acre wooded area near Water Street and Roosevelt Drive. A bar owner, city worker, and a man who works outdoors all spotted — but couldn’t catch — the dog. Roscoe was also spotted on a trail camera a couple of other times last week.

However, after going four days without a sighting, .

But in an email to Patch on Sunday, Tammy Langhoff said Roscoe was found in a "humane trap," and was severely dehydrated and had a severe leg injury.

The dog has been taken to an area animal hospital and is in intensive care, she said.

Family, friends, and strangers had spent countless hours driving around looking for the dog, who was to become a source of income as well as hope for the family. Kirk Langhoff is the former owner of Northwoods Gunsmithing in Hartford. The small gun store couldn’t compete with larger big box stories and Langoff, who is now unemployed, was going to use Roscoe for guided hunts.

Has anybody put together a fund where people could donate to help the family with Roscoe’s likely expensive vet bills?

We’ve been meaning to check out Friends of Nature since we moved to MF about a month ago, looks like we have a good reason to stop by on Friday. Does anybody know if they allow leashed dogs in the store? We’d like to bring along our German Shorthaired Pointer.
