Brush Pickup Deadline Is Next Week

You can also pick up a free yard waste permit from Village Hall to fit your landscaping schedule for the rest of the year.

After a cold, wet winter, the sunny and warm weather that’s finally graced Falls residents with an appearance has also offered a perfect canopy for yard work.

As with any landscaping project, that pile of brush can stack up rather quickly when the motivation strikes. However, you’ll want to make sure you have all your brush out to the curb by Sunday, May 12. The village will begin its annual brush pickup at 7 a.m. the following day.

The the village hopes to spread the word to keep the program running smoothly, and prevent brush piles from sitting curbside past the deadline.

But before you drag a small forest to the street, there are several guidelines from Public Works Director Arlyn Johnson:

  • Do not place brush in the street
  • In general, keep branches six inches in diameter or under, and cut to 4-foot lengths.
  • Only brush will be picked up. Do not mingle in yard waste, root balls, or stumps

“Please get your brush to the curb by the deadline,” Johnson said. “We will make the rounds through the village once, and won’t visit a street twice.”

If you miss the brush pickup, or you have more to trim, you can get a free yard waste permit through Waste Management from Village Hall. The permit is free and is good for 35 trips to the composting site. After 35 visits, there is a $3 flat fee and a per-pound charge of 1-1/2 cents per pound.
