Kettle Moraine Symphony Announces 2013-2014 Concert Season

Musical Journeys feature Irish and Holy Hill performances

WEST BEND (Aug. 7, 2012) – The Kettle Moraine Symphony has announced its 2013-2014 season, which will take audiences on “Musical Journeys” with four live concert performances starting in December.

The first concert carries listeners to the Far North for “A Winter Holiday” with music of the season – from “Sleigh Ride” to a German Carol Festival – Saturday, Dec. 7, at 2 p.m. at Our Savior’s Church in West Bend. In 2014, the music of “Russian Romantics” including Dmitri Shostakovich and Pyotr Tchaikovsky will be performed Saturday, March 1, at 2 p.m. at Our Savior’s Church. A program highlight is a performance by the student winner of the Washington County Concerto Competition.

On Sunday, March 23, 2014, melodies of the Emerald Isle will fill the theater at the University of Wisconsin-Washington County for a performance of “Irish Impressions.” “Irish Rhapsody,” “Titanic,” and music from “Lord of the Dance” by Ronan Hardiman and dancers from the Cashel Dennehy School of Irish Dance are among the performances. Hors d’oeuvres, beer and wine will be available.

Holy Hill in Hubertus will be the inspiring venue for the Sunday, May 18, concert joining the orchestra under Music Director Paul Thorgaard and the Moraine Chorus under Prof. Peter Gibeau. “Magnificent Mendelssohn” includes two of Felix Mendelssohn’s Psalm settings, Psalms 42 and 151. Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 9 in C major will also be performed. More than 600 filled the landmark church in March 2013 for the combined performance of Mozart’s “Requiem.”

“We want to remind people to put our concert dates on their calendars. The quality of talent in our orchestra is really exceptional and will excite and entertain both our long-time fans and newcomers,” said Thorgaard.
