“The long-term success of Camp Jorn relies on the collaboration of our supporters, alumni and board members,” says Larry Kilpatrick, board vice president. The camp’s mission and traditions developed over six decades of operation in northern Wisconsin, he adds, won’t change.
The meeting will be from 7-9 p.m. in the college’s C Wing Conference Center, Room C003. Among the discussion topics will be the board’s plan to hire an executive director. It will interview potential candidates through mid-December and hopes to announce its new administrator as early as late January.
Noting that the responsibilities and demands of the position have grown since Camp Jorn became an independent YMCA camp, the board looks to revamp the leadership position. The input of camp alumni and supporters, board members say, is vital to the selection process.

“The town hall format will help us to engage our camp supporters and alumni in a productive discussion about the characteristics most desirable in an executive director,” Kilpatrick relates.

“It all starts with board leadership, and our job is to create an environment that will allow the new executive director to succeed,” says board member Carol Detwiler. “Our efforts right now are focused on finding the right candidate.”
Camp Jorn is located in Wisconsin’s Northern Highland State Forest. The 70-acre, independent YMCA camp on the shores of Rest Lake has been both a summer and family camp to thousands since its inception in 1952. Along with its traditional one-, two- and three-week summer sessions, the facility also operates a day camp for 5-12 year-olds, while offering year-round child care services to communities surrounding the Manitowish Chain of Lakes.
For those unable to attend, a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) link will be published on the camp’s website after the meeting.
