SORRY: While much of the government continues to operate at some level, the Pentagon has ordered that it will not pay death benefits to families of military members killed in combat while the shutdown and the budget impasse that caused it go on.

It's time to end the Tea party government shutdown. I'm so disgusted with moderate RepublicansRead More following lock and step with those out of touch with reality in the tea party.
Mr Lundt October 10, 2013 at 08:27 pm
Obama's shut down is petty and childish. In his own words he refuses to negotiate with anyone. OneRead More would have to be a a blind zealot not to see the dems owning 100% of the blockade of action.
BACK IN BUSINESS: Sen. Tammy Baldwin’s staff now says the Wisconsin senator’s offices are open, served by a bare bones staff during the government shutdown.
Jay Sykes October 4, 2013 at 03:44 pm
“Although our office is currently operating at a limited capacity...." Senator, do youRead More care to clarify how that is out of the ordinary, for you and the majority of the Senate? (double entendre intended)

Very mature, Nutty. Of all the policies and actions of hers with which you could bring up andRead More pillory, you go for that? What are you, a grade-schooler?
WHO’S TO BLAME? As the federal government partial shutdown hit Day 4 Friday, we ask you, who’s to blame? Photo: AP
St. Swithin October 4, 2013 at 02:39 pm
The problem is Republicans think "negotiation" means "give me everything IRead More want". When they were writing the healthcare bill. Democrats removed the public option because Republicans didn't like it. They even went so far as to take a healthcare plan that Republicans had written and base the whole law on that. R's were complaining about funding it (which didn't matter for any of the bills passed during the Bush administration) so D's included the public mandate and taxes on medical equipment. They made a full-funded bill. It didn't matter. R's weren't happy and not a single one voted for it. It still passed and was signed into law. So the R's took it to court. The Supreme Court said it was legal. R's didn't care. They campaigned on overthrowing Obamacare. In an ironic twist they even nominated Romney, who had implemented a version of the ACA in Massachusetts. He had to repudiate his chief accomplishment! The people gave Obama a clear victory. The R's didn't care. They tried 40 (!!!) times to pass laws to kill Obamacare. None were passed. So now we have the Continuing Resolution (CR). The Senate agreed to everything the House put into the CR (including less funding for cancer research, veterans, sequestration, etc.) All they took out was the part that defunded Obamacare. R's didn't care. They scream "you're not negotiating!" So now we know that some words mean different things to R's than to the rest of the world.

Obama's goal is to inflict the greatest amount of pain on the American taxpayer and the military.Read More The Camp David golf course is open. The Armed Forces Network is not televising sports broadcasts to our soldiers. The WW2 Memorial is not only closed, but it is barricaded so that those of the greatest generation cannot visit the site built in their honor. obama is a small minded spiteful community organizer who fancies himself a leader. He is nothing more than a Chicago thug.
The Anti-Alinsky October 12, 2013 at 11:37 am
@St. Swithin, you are wrong. It isn't the Republican's that want it all, it is B.O!!! How do youRead More interpret "pass the clean resolution, then we will talk?" Hey Swithin, how about you sign over your 2010 Mustang Cobra to me, then we will talk price. This is worse than "We have to pass it to know what's in it". ========================================== Liberals are claiming that ObamaNoCare is the law of the land, yet they have exempted themselves, and Obama has changed the law WITHOUT congressional approval. This is whole thing is one big joke. B.O. needs to sit down with Republican's and get this worked out. (1) delay implementation for a year...it will probably take that long to get the website working anyways. (2) Remove Congressional and other exemptions. By allowing this we are laying the groundwork for a two class society. We are all in, or none of us are!!! (3) Place in some real spending cuts. We can start by streamlining all the entitlement programs we have. Right now there are so many I bet even ACORN can't list them all. ========================================== BTW-whose dumb idea was it to sign EVERYONE up one one day. They could have started with A's on Sept. 1, B's on Sept. 2... and let it all kick in on October 1! Centralized planning... PPPPPPPPPPPPPPPT!!!
WATCH OUT: Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wisconsin, says the American people need to keep their eyes open to the dysfunction going on in their government.
Bob McBride October 3, 2013 at 07:39 am
On her website she claims she has to based on laws and rules surrounding the shutdown. She'sRead More unique amongst WI legislators in her interpretation of those laws and rules. She's unique amongst WI legislators in deciding to make herself unavailable to her constituents during that period of time, despite continuing to receive a paycheck. That pretty much says it all right there, Lyle.
Jay Sykes October 3, 2013 at 08:41 am

FAREWELL, TAMMY: U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin says she is closing down her offices during the government shutdown. She appears to be the only member of Wisconsin’s congressional delegation doing so.

Bob McBride October 2, 2013 at 04:56 pm
It's Harry Reid's shut down.

Can anyone tell us: What percentage of Bills Signed by the President, in the last 50 years, wereRead More written soley by the Senate and passed by the House un-changed < without any reconciliation >.
‘WHO PROTECTS OUR INFANTS?’ A bill would make hurting or injuring an infant by intoxicated co-sleeping a felony. Should there be a new law for this societal problem?
Bob McBride September 28, 2013 at 08:08 am
28 over the past 2 years according to the article In a discussion regarding this on the radio, IRead More heard 55, however not sure of the time frame they were referring to. I'm really not sure why we need a new law. People who co-sleep with their kids aren't going to stop doing so because there's a law saying they shouldn't. Common sense would dictate you don't. Efforts to try and educate those who apparently lack common have been in existence for awhile. Drunk people are even less apt to pay attention to such a law at the time when it might make a difference. There are laws on the books that can be used to prosecute the people who do this. However, if we're going to start making laws to address specific careless parental behaviors that results in a child's death, where do we stop? Kids die from being left in unventilated cars on hot days. Do we need a special law for that? Kids drown in backyard wading pools when the parent goes in the house for a few minutes. Do we need a special law for that? Use the laws on the books. If you don't like the way the DA is prosecuting, change the DA. And consider that the death of a child is probably a greater punishment, in most cases, than is jail time.
Lyle Ruble September 28, 2013 at 11:42 am
@Bob McBride......Well stated and I agree completely.
Di Atribe October 8, 2013 at 10:28 am
Laws don't work to dissuade those who rarely follow laws in the first place. Let's be blunt--theRead More only way to solve this problem lies on the shoulders of the storefront preachers up and down Fond du Lac Avenue, not with people considered to be cultural outsiders telling the undereducated members of the black community what to do. If they listened to us there wouldn't be the volume of other poor behavior in the first place.
FELONIOUS SLEEP: A bill by state Rep. Samantha Kerkman, R-Randall, would make the death of a child through intoxicated co-sleeping a felony.
John Wilson September 30, 2013 at 08:11 am
Of course, we need this law about as much as we need the law teaching “abstinence only”Read More in every HS in Wisconsin. And, we will get the same fantastic result: NONE!

"...about when you don't agree with something that you still should be respectful aboutRead More it." Not quite sure I agree that the teacher actually made that point to her class. It seems that very little (if any) of the art that she posted on her blog showed any level of respect for Walker. A great 'teaching moment' would have been taking this opportunity to point out that Walker isn't a criminal...
Maximum October 2, 2013 at 12:00 pm
Bob, I certainly agree with you about the blogging. This should have stayed in the classroom.Read More Cowdung, I was just going off what she had said in the article. If she didn't actually take the time to teach her students about being respectful if you don't agree with something, then that's her fault for not taking the opportunity to teach a very important lesson. That would also mean she wasn't being honest while answering questions for the article and that is definitely not right on her part.
Mr Lundt October 2, 2013 at 06:16 pm
Maximum Don't you find it odd that not one of her students bashed Obama or praised Walker? 100 %Read More devout democrats in that school district huh?
STUBBORN JUDGEMENT? Dane County Judge Juan Colas again declares Wisconsin’s Act 10 unconstitutional despite several rulings upholding the collective bargaining law.
Mr Lundt September 19, 2013 at 06:58 pm
Colas will continue to work in madison. He will be the hero of all of the cocktail parties heRead More attends. THe fact that he is an idiot (and is is regularly proven) will never be mentioned.
The Anti-Alinsky September 19, 2013 at 07:01 pm
Juan Colas is clueless! He doesn't know the difference between what the law IS and what he thinks itRead More should be!
WINNING AGAIN: A new poll by Public Policy Polling puts Walker in front of all would-be challengers in the 2014 governor’s race.
John Wilson September 23, 2013 at 07:04 pm
The Anti-Alinsky – I think your logic is both flawed and counterproductive; furthermore, itRead More is based on circumstances and situations prior to 2010, in addition to being purely speculative and theoretical. ~ I think “Binders full of women” really illustrates your silliness…
The Anti-Alinsky September 23, 2013 at 10:38 pm
Actually John, it is a great illustration how you point fingers at Conservatives for things you areRead More doing yourself. And of course, your response is purely rhetorical!!!
Steven W. Smith September 26, 2013 at 12:07 am
Take a look at the Debt Clock site. Search Wisconsin & view our DEBT. Politicians like to mix upRead More deficit with debt. We are going further into debt with current policies.
TEACHER FOR HIRE: A bill moving through the Legislature would let substitutes contracted through employment agencies get around the state’s double-dipping law.
DICK STEINBERG September 16, 2013 at 11:13 am
When you retire on your pension plan you should be able to work at will rather than live on a fixedRead More income. It makes no sense to keep retirees with valuable experience out of the workplace. This is not double dipping, it is earned income. How foolish is that? Lawmakers pass a law restricing work for teachers after retirement (which is frought with constitutional and personal rights issues) and then pass another law to correct their mistake?
CowDung September 16, 2013 at 02:16 pm
Dick Steinberg: If one goes back to work, it can be argued that they really are not retired. IfRead More they are not retired, then they shouldn't begin collecting their pension.

ACT 10 STANDS: Thousands rally during the long, cold winter of 2011, when unions fought passage of Wisconsin’s Act 10. A federal court on Wednesday became the latest jurisdiction to uphold constitutional challenges to the controversial law.

CUT IT: Sen. Glenn Grothman, R-West Bend, wants the Legislature to sharpen its tax-cutting scissors now that state revenue is better than expected.
Jay Sykes September 10, 2013 at 06:51 am
With revenue significantly exceeding projections, using the current cash accounting system, now isRead More the least painful time for Wisconsin to begin the transition to a GAAP balanced budget;a Scott Walker Promise. Further, we should request that the State Constitution be Amended, to prevent those elected in the future from returning to a cash accounting basis.
Mr Lundt September 10, 2013 at 10:11 am

Rufus Jackson September 10, 2013 at 09:37 am
I heard today from inside sources that Michelle Obama is actually here to try to push Walkercare.Read More This has nothing to do with water it is just a ploy to distract the American people from Benghazi. And I heard that the Administration is trying to make it illegal for Palin to run for Governor in 2014. We need to stand up to this corruption and the Chicago machine.
Sunrocket September 10, 2013 at 03:37 pm
Michelle, please stay home and stop wasting the taxpayers money. People will drink water if theyRead More want to - they don't need you to tell them to What is Eva's appearance fee? More waste of money.
Rufus Jackson September 10, 2013 at 03:59 pm
Sunrocket is right! Eva probably here cause she is scouting out Congressional districts to move toRead More and run. Don't think they don't have an agenda on pushing Obamacare with their team running for offices and raise our taxes and grasp our freedom. Their trying to take it away from Rand Paul too with their Hollywood candidates.
NO SALE: The Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty says the city of Milwaukee and Milwaukee Public Schools are not following the spirit of a state law that allows the city to sell unused school buildings.
Mr Lundt September 9, 2013 at 09:04 am
Lyle--How is that Tom Barrett and WEAC are able to squelch anything concerning this issue?: Don'tRead More be naïve. That is as silly as looking at an ORG chart in a company and pretending that is really how everything operates. It has no basis in reality. ---Also misleading is claiming that St Marcus represents the overall quality of the School Choice Program in Milwaukee. ---I never said anything resembling that Lyle. You again created a straw man argument. I said THIS school is doing gang busters and it should be allowed to expand into vacant buildings owned by the tax payers. ---Finally, if the St Marcus School is so superior, then why do they need public vouchers to remain and thrive. As a Christian Education Ministry, shouldn't the church members step up and fund this through their charitable giving? ---- typical left. Have no issues when they waste tax dollars on poorly performing schools but insist that any other alternatives are funded by the generous. The real question is Lyle---why should tax payers continue to fund failing schools public or private? Why does the left continue to use poor minorities as a pawn for their power and money grab?

http://www.slate.com/articles/arts/books/2010/03/facing_up_to_our_ignorance.html Interesting book.Read More Testing doesn't help. Closing schools doesn't help. Choice doesn't help. Each new theory in teaching reading and math that comes down the pike doesn't help. Trying to teach pre-schoolers to read at the age of three really won't help. Yes, being able to switch to a school with fewer low-performing kids in the class will help the lucky kid who can get into that school. But that means leaving the low-performers out in the cold.

Mr Lundt September 8, 2013 at 09:13 am
Rich---you need to pay more attention to how well our government spends (see wastes) tax money.Read More Most money is far better off in the hands of the people not the government. The government talks like you do about infrastructure and then wastes money on predictable stupid failures like Solyndra and Obama phones for able bodied workers.

This law would force many small business's to become the tax collectors of the nation where they didRead More not have to before. That will increase the cost of doing business with no gain to the business. Who pays for that? Also, that subjects many Wisconsin business's to be audited by every little Tom, Dick and Harry municipality with a tax. These auditors are paid thugs who make a percentage of what they find. Who pays for that? Do you want Illinois or California dictating what you can and cannot do at their whims? The law already exists for paying your taxes. Enforce what is already there. Don't screw up the small business that this law is supposed to help. It won't.
STANDARD RATES APPLY: Wisconsin school districts could pay more than $250 million combined for the implementation of Common Core State Standards, according to a Fordham Institute analysis.

dpatric2, ObamaNoCare (Patient Protection and AFFORDABLE Care Act) was supposed to bring down theRead More cost of insurance, or at the very least hold rates steady. It has done nothing but increase insurance costs. Over 700 companies have been given waivers because it would destroy them otherwise. And the ones that can't get them just lower employee hours so that they don't have to pay the insurance fines. =========================================== All ObamaNoCare did was force more people into the system and create a platform to put health care into a centralized planning arena where the all knowledgeable intelligentsia of the Liberal Left can show how smart they really are!
