UPDATE: Police Release Name of Woman Who Drowned While Trying to Save Dog on Icy Pond
Diane Godnek-Knudson, 51, died on Sunday after attempting to save her dog from Rivers Edge Park.
The Menomonee Falls police department on Tuesday released the identity of the woman who drowned Sunday in Rivers Edge Park.
Diane Godnek-Knudson, 51, drowned Sunday afternoon apparently while trying to rescue her dog, which had fallen through the ice on the pond at Rivers Edge Park. Her 53-year-old husband, Richard Knudson, was rescued by firefighters along with his dog.
Knudson reported that his wife was still under the ice after firefighters rescued him.
The incident happened at about 2:20 p.m. at the park, located east of Lilly Road and south of Fond du Lac Avenue.
The body of Godnek-Knudson was found in about 6 to 8 feet of water, Menomonee Falls police said. She was taken to Community Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
A second dog was found dead on the ice and appeared to have died from hypothermia, police said.
Police do not suspect any foul play.
