Menomonee Falls Students Participating in Risk Behavior Survey

The survey will ask 6-12 grade students about sexual behavior, tobacco use, alcohol and other drug use, dietary behavior and physical activity.

Menomonee Falls School District will survey students about health behaviors as part of the Wisconsin On-Line Youth Risk Behavior Survey sponsored by the Department of Public Instruction.

The survey will ask 6-12 grade students about behaviors that result in unintentional injuries, tobacco use, alcohol and other drug use, dietary behavior and physical activity, according to a letter to parents

Additionally, the survey will also ask 8th-12th graders about sexual behaviors that may result in HIV, other sexually transmitted diseases, and unwanted pregnancies.

Students will be asked to fill out a computer-based questionnaire that should take 25 minutes during regular class time. The survey is voluntary. Students can skip any question that they do not wish to answer.

Parents can opt out their children from taking the survey by filling out the form below the letter and return it to the school district no later than March 1st.

Attached are the copies of the survey.

If they really want to know what the students are doing all they have to do is check the newsfeed on Facebook, open a Twitter account, or shake down some of their known "repeat offenders" on a daily basis. It would take less time and be far less expensive.

The chances of obtaining truthful answers have been shown by most written surveys of this type to be 45%. Then in addition, you have to look at the population being asked the questions here: TEENAGERS!

This population lies from the moment they open their eyes in the morning, until they close them at night.

I sincerely hope that this "survey" will not be used as a basis for the creation of any type of policy!

Why else have a survey? Of course its use is for some form of policy or allocation of resources, be it educationally or otherwise.

Another attempt by Big Brother to pry into the lives of its subjects. I'm sure this is all for educational use but sometimes you have to wonder. I wonder if there's any questions regarding firearms and if that would lead to profiling against possible school violence. Are these filled anonymously? Doubt it if done "by computer" and especially if a parent has to "fill out a form" to exempt their child.

I didn't catch a glimpse of the survey prior to my original comment.

Yep, just what I expected. Questions on weapons. And a "survey ID number" assigned. Somewhere that number is assigned to a student name.

Fill out a form to opt your kid out. Lovely, big government just can't help itself. Leave the surveys blank kids and parents don't fill in the opt out form. This info is private.
